Students review prom experience

The spray tans are fading, all the $400 dresses are hung up in a closet and will never be worn again, and the tuxes have all made it safely back to the rental place.  These are the telltale signs that prom is indeed over.

Admittedly, this year’s prom was different from years past with appetizers instead of a sit down meal.  Juniors and seniors both had mixed opinions about this change.

Zach Lapasso, senior favored the traditional dinner over the appetizers and overall thought last year’s prom was more of a success.

“The dance, I had fun but I honestly liked the Ritz better, there wasn’t really enough tables and I preferred the sit down dinner but everything else was really fun and put together really nicely.” Lapasso said.  “For appetizers they were good appetizers but I would prefer a sit down dinner, I liked how it was last year.”

Curtis Pierson, junior, was excited for his first year of prom and was happy with how the dance went but said he hopes next years prom will have a few adjustments.

“I feel like all the hard work paid off but some things could’ve been better such as food,” Pierson said. “I thought the food was a bit cold at times and I thought it would be warmer and it would be more filling.”

Pierson said he felt like he didn’t get his money’s worth for what was provided at the dance.

“I think it would be nice to see a full course meal for people to have so one, their money would be worth it and two so they’d be full the whole night,” Pierson said.

Sam Filson, junior class secretary, said he thought prom went exceptionally well.

Filson was very involved in the planning process and said it was fun to see it all come together.

“We had to do just about everything, we had to meet with the Hilton Frontenac and talk about food and placement, we had to meet with Sarah’s Cake Shop and talk about cupcakes, taste them, talk about designs and colors and plan out all the decorations,” Filson said.

After talking with the other junior class officers and several other students Filson felt that prom went over really well and he received mostly positive feedback on everything.

“[Prom] went better than I thought it would,” Filson said.  “Everyone that I talked to said it went well and they liked the set up an like the dancing and how there was a big dance floor compared to last year, last year’s [dance floor] was half the size and had the same amount of people so you couldn’t really dance.  They liked the food and they liked how it was kind of less formal but still you know, prom.”

Filson along with the other junior class officers will pass the torch to the incoming juniors in planning prom.  Although not positive, Filson said he thinks they will stick with the same format they had at this year’s prom.
