Marquette Girls Volleyball falls to Parkway West in district semifinals

Girls Varsity volleyball played for the district 7 title on Tuesday Oct. 20 and Wednesday Oct 21.

The team’s first game on Tuesday was set against the Ladue Horton-Watkins Rams, a team that had a record of 9-11. MHS started defeated their opponents in two sets. Whitney Clay, senior, though they managed to pull through with a win, she didn’t know if their intensity was as high as it should have been.

Hallie Sidney, junior, voiced a similar analysis of the team’s performance.

“The first day, we played pretty well, but we knew that we needed to play better on Wednesday to win both of our games,” Sidney said.

The next day, the MHS team faced Parkway West, whom they had a 1-1 record with during the normal season, in the district semifinals. The team started off strong and won the first set. But the Parkway West team came back in the next two sets, marking them with the victory.

“It was pretty upsetting because we thought we could get to the district finals match,” Emilly Kreitman, senior, said. “ But we fought hard, so we felt good about the game.”

Clay also remarked on the closeness of the Wednesday match, adding that they had to go into extra points.

“Both teams had some big kills. There were a lot of big kills from Hallie Sidney and Taylor Wilson,” Clay said. “It was pretty much point by point, but the last set we just couldn’t finish the game, so we lost.”

Sidney said volleyball is a game of momentum.

“Who has momentum can switch in one point, so it’s good to just keep siding out and get the balls back, but it’s easier said than done,” Sidney said

The loss in districts marked the end of the girls Varsity season, ending with a record of 19-10-4.

“We’ve had a great season, thank you to our seniors,” Sidney said.
