Spring Preview: Boys golf

Spring is approaching which means golf season will soon be in full swing.  In Frankie Thomas, junior’s mind, last year was a success.  Thomas finished the season with a 4th place finish at the State tournament.

“Unfortunately last year we only had one person qualify for the State tournament,” Thomas said.

Thomas said the goal every year is to have players qualify for State and try to place.

“I think this year and next year will be better than last year,” Thomas said.

Thomas said there are some key players this year that will contribute to the team’s success in Jaden Nilsen, Ben Sayers, Austin Schettler and Stone Osterman.

Eric Schweain, varsity head coach, said the State qualification last year was a great accolade for the team.

“Our strengths this year will be leadership that trickles down,” Schweain said.  “I’ve been very fortunate to have great senior leaders the past few years.”

Schweain said the schedule this year will be against some of the best teams in the state.

“We will be playing in more tournaments this year, including a tournament at the Ozarks that will include some of the top teams in the State,” Schweain said.

The team is coming off of a 4th place finish at State last year that they hope to maintain this year.

“I’m looking forward to warm weather, that’s number one,” Schweain said.
