Rains cause record flooding in Eureka. The Meramec River crested at roughly 46 feet, causing RSD to cancel school for four days.

As students return to school today after having four days off due to major flooding in the Eureka area, one of the most pressing questions is whether or not makeup days will be added to the MHS calendar. Dr. Greg Mathison, head principal and Eureka resident, said the district is currently working to address that issue with the state of Missouri.

“As of now, the school district plans on 180 days, the state of Missouri says that we must go to 174. We had two days off in January for weather, and we had four days off last week, so right now that puts us right at 174, so we’re fine now,” Dr. Mathison said. “Dr. Knost has put out a request to forgive Eureka’s added day and hopefully that will go through for them. But we’re alright. There are no extra days. Because it’s a natural disaster, the state will typically look at it and understand that those things are out of our hands.”
