Club Spotlight: Renaissance

Renaissance. That one AP Euro term? No, the club at MHS.

A nation-wide program, Renaissance recognizes and rewards staff excellence and student achievement. Jessica Phung, senior, joined her freshman year and is now its Co-President.

“I enjoy seeing students and staff being rewarded for their efforts,” Phung said. “It makes being part of the club more meaningful.”

She encourages others to join too because they can help with all the school events.

“Most people don’t know that Renaissance actually sponsors most of the school events,” she said.

They run just about everything. Winners Circle, ACE Awards, Student of the Day, Trivia Thursday, Donut Mondays, Nike Sale, Marvelous Mustang, and more.

“Students need an incentive to do well and our staff needs to be recognized for their outstanding teaching abilities so it’s very important that we keep the renaissance committee and club going,” Phung said.

Currently, Renaissance has just over 40 members and meets every other week. Students interested in joining can apply early next year.

“We have an application process and you can pick up applications at orientation or get them on the MHS website under Renaissance, and then they’re normally due in the first few weeks of school,” Ashley Hobbs, social studies teacher and co-sponsor of Renaissance said.
