Student Spotlight: Tiffany Tannas
While most teenagers long for a few extra minutes of sleep in morning, Tiffany Tannas, sophomore, starts school extra early with her church.
Each day, Tannas attends seminary, a youth Bible study for Mormons at her church, beginning at five in the morning.
Mormons have four books of study, the Old and New Testaments of the Bible, the Book of Mormon, and the Doctrine and Covenants, which are modern day revelations from the founder of the church. Each year of high school, Tannas and her peers will study one of books.
Tannas enjoys attending seminary to start the day off right and gain a deeper understanding of her faith.
“I really like to participate in the discussions with other kids in my class and just start my day off on a good note,” Tannas said.
Because the seminary operates on Parkway’s schedule, there are some days Tannas must attend seminary, even if regular classes at Marquette are canceled.
Attending seminary can led Mormons later on when applying for college.
“It’s not a requirement to attend seminary, but it looks really good to come if you plan on attending a Mormon led college, like Brigham Young University,” Tannas said. “Most Mormons who are active in church come.”
