Spring Preview: Boys track and field

Last year, the boys track and field team saw multi-State-record-holder Noah Kauppila graduate and move on to run at Princeton.

They don’t want that to be their identity.

“We have a larger amount of up and coming distance runners,” Kevin Ganahl, senior, said. “And in meets if you combine their points, they will able to do get as many of not more points per meet than Noah was able to by himself.”

Ganahl said he expects a lot from himself and his long distance team.

This isn’t a rebuilding year.

“Sure I hope to make it to state this year in a few events, get some personal records, and get All-State in open events,” he said. “Also, I think our team is going to finish really strong and be able to compete with Lafayette with additions this year.”

Sprinter Kevin Sacks, senior, said the team is always looking for more runners to pick up the slack of past graduating seniors, but that the sprinters are more experienced than last year.

“We are hopeful for a top five finish in conference,” he said. “Our conference has been expanded this year with the addition of SLUH and Desmet.”
