After winning Conference Feb. 27, girl’s basketball lost to Eureka in Districts, 53-63 Tuesday, Mar. 3.

“I’m proud of the way our team came out and won Conference because we haven’t won in 10 years,” Cat Sturgill, senior, said.

“In the past two years we’ve lost three college players, but it didn’t stop us from winning Conference with our hard work,” Jessie Dunlap, senior, said.

Earlier this season MHS beat Eureka.

“We were down but we came back and won by 3,” Lauren Lottmann, senior, said.

Lottmann knocked down three 3-pointers Tuesday night.

At the end of the first quarter the Mustangs and Wildcats were tied 10-10.

The score at the half was 20-25 with the Wildcats pulling ahead.

Eureka continued to pull ahead, and at the end of the third quarter the Mustangs were down 37-47.

During the fourth quarter the Mustangs fought to decrease the Wildcats lead to four, but ultimately lost by 10.

“That’s not how I wanted our season to end,” Dunlap said. “We didn’t play to our full potential and our shots weren’t falling for us, but we kept battling.”

“I was upset that we lost but even more upset that it’s over,” Lottmann said.
