Tots join Mr. Stang

High school students won’t be the only contestants at Mr. Mustang this year; for the first time, kids will be able to participate in a Little Mr. Mustang competition.

Mr. Mustang is a competition featuring male candidates from various clubs, organizations and classes. The contestants compete to win the title of Mr. Mustang.

“In addition to raising money for Prom, our hope is to educate students about the many opportunities to get involved and connected to Marquette High School, all while making people laugh,” Ashley Hobbs, Junior Class advisor, said.

But this year, sons, grandsons and nephews of staff members also have the opportunity to compete in Little Mr. Mustang,  which will take place at the beginning of the Mr. Mustang show.

Little Mr. Mustang contestants must be 10 or under. They will introduce themselves and wear formal clothes.

“I think it’s a fun way to involve staff with younger children and something to promote the growth of Mr. Mustang for the future,” Lisa Del Pizzo, Mr. Mustang host, said.

Erin Sullenger, social studies teacher, said she is excited to have her son, Thomas, 5, participate in Little Mr. Mustang.

“I am supporting my friend, Mrs. Hobbs, and I thought it would be fun for Thomas,” Sullenger said.

Thomas wasn’t sure what Mr. Mustang was, but said he is felt happy to be in the Little Mr. Mustang competition.

Senior Kevin Ganahl, Mr. Fashion Design, said Little Mr. Mustang is a good addition to Mr. Mustang.

“I think that sounds like the most adorable thing I’ve ever heard,” Ganahl said.

In addition to Little Mr. Mustang, Hobbs is working with the Marquette Parent Organization to hold raffles. Students can bring cash to the competition to enter raffles and vote on fan favorites. Proceeds will go to Prom.

“Please come and support the guys and raise money for Prom,” Hobbs said. “The better the turnout, the better the Prom.”

Mr. Mustang will be held on Thursday, Nov 6 from 6:30 p.m.- 10 p.m.
